NYK Line
NYK Line is currently among the world’s 10 largest shipping companies involved to container business. The history of the shipping line is starting from year 1870 when Tosa Clan established the Tsukumo Shokai Shipping Company. The headquarters of the company are located in Japan (Tokyo).
The first line specialising in container transport was set into operation in year 1968 when m/v „Hakone Maru” started regular trips between USA and Japan. Container ships between Japan and Europe started going in year 1971.
As of January 2011, NYK Line is operating 750 ships, 154 of them being container ships. The main fields of activity besides container transport are: transportation of bulk cargo (289 bulk vessels), transportation of passenger cars (112 car carriers), transportation of crude oil products (80 tankers), transportation of liquid natural gas (33 LNG carriers) and providing cruise services (3 cruise ships). In addition to that, there are 57 vessels with other purposes. NYK Line provides container transport services all over the world.
